Tanvi Patri added another landmark chapter to her young career on Sunday, becoming the first Indian badminton player to win both the Asian U15 and U17 girls' singles titles after defeating compatriot Shaina Manimuthu in a hard-fought final in China.

Representing India at the Badminton Asia U17 & U15 Junior Championships, Patri overcame Manimuthu 11-15, 15-10, 15-12 in a 46-minute contest to claim the U17 crown. The victory was particularly significant for the Odisha teenager, who had already won the Asian U15 title in 2024.

Patri had to fight back after dropping the opening game, but she showed composure and determination to turn the match around. She tightened her game in the second game and carried that momentum into the decider, using her movement and net play effectively to edge past her fellow Indian.

The all-Indian final also underlined the depth emerging in India's junior badminton ranks. While Patri secured the gold medal, Manimuthu settled for silver, giving India a one-two finish in the women's singles event.

China's Yu Ying Gui and Japan's Anon Okimoto took the bronze medals.

Patri's achievement also places her alongside Diksha Sudhar as only the second Indian to win the Asian U17 women's singles title. But her successful progression from the U15 level to the U17 category makes the latest triumph even more notable.

For Indian badminton, the result offers another encouraging sign that a new generation is developing beyond the established senior names. Patri's ability to handle pressure, recover from setbacks and deliver against a compatriot on a major junior stage will be closely watched as she moves towards the next phase of her career.

With two Asian junior titles already under her belt, Patri has now set an early benchmark for herself, and potentially marked the beginning of a much bigger journey in Indian badminton.
