Tanvi Steals the Show While Srikanth's Korea Masters Campaign Ends in Heartbreak

India's women's singles contingent stole the spotlight on the opening day of the Korea Masters Super 300, with newly-crowned Taipei Open champion Tanvi Sharma leading an impressive charge into the second round. However, the celebrations were tempered by a disappointing performance from the men's singles squad, headlined by former world championship silver medallist Kidambi Srikanth's early exit.

Third seed Tanvi continued her rich vein of form by defeating China's Yuan An Qi 21-16, 21-15, extending the confidence gained from winning her maiden BWF World Tour title last week. The teenager looked composed throughout the contest, reinforcing her status as one of India's brightest emerging badminton stars.

India's women delivered several resilient performances. Rakshitha Ramraj fought back from a game down to defeat Korea's Yoo A Yeon 22-24, 21-12, 21-13, while Mansi Singh produced another remarkable comeback to beat Kim Joo Eun 14-21, 21-19, 21-9. Fifth seed Isharani Baruah and eighth seed Anmol Kharb also advanced after hard-fought three-game victories. Ashmita Chaliha and Shriyanshi Valishetty registered convincing straight-game wins to keep India's strong women's campaign on track.

Only Tanya Hemanth and Aakarshi Kashyap bowed out after closely contested matches against higher-ranked opponents.

The men's singles competition, however, turned into a forgettable outing for India. Third seed Srikanth lost 20-22, 21-14, 12-21 to Israel's Daniil Dubovenko, while Kiran George, Mithun Manjunath, Tharun Mannepalli, and Rounak Chouhan also crashed out in the opening round. Saneeth Dayanand retired midway through his match against Japan's Yudai Okimoto due to injury.

India enjoyed some success in doubles as Ishaan Bhatnagar-Shruti Mishra and Sonali Singh-Ritika Thaker progressed to the next round, although other Indian pairs suffered opening-round defeats, leaving the women's singles players as the country's biggest source of optimism.
