Technopark Engineering Lab Becomes First in India’s IT Parks to Secure NABL Accreditation

The engineering laboratory of Technopark, Kerala's major IT hub, has received NABL accreditation, making it the first IT park in the country to have a NABL-accredited engineering laboratory, according to a statement issued by the organisation.

The accreditation has been granted for meeting the general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. Technopark CEO Sandeep Kumar, IAS, congratulated officials and support staff on the recognition, saying the accreditation would help ensure quality and support sustainable infrastructure development at the IT park.

Technopark had established civil and electrical engineering laboratories on its Phase I campus last year. The facilities were developed to ensure standards and quality assurance in construction and electrical works, including LT and HT materials. The NABL-accredited laboratory will strengthen quality control in Technopark's infrastructure projects by supporting engineering decisions, material-performance verification, compliance monitoring and the reliability of built infrastructure.

Technopark Chief Technical Officer Madhavan Praveen described the accreditation as a significant achievement for the organisation and its Engineering Department. He said the process required sustained efforts, dedication and close coordination among the team. The laboratories are equipped to test various parameters and assess the quality of construction and electrical materials used in Technopark's projects. Tests are conducted according to Indian Standard (IS) specifications, with results provided in a timely manner.

Developers and companies in and around Technopark can also use the facilities to check the quality and compliance of construction materials and works with applicable specifications. The electrical laboratory has facilities to repair LED fixtures, drivers and other components, potentially helping reduce e-waste and costs. The civil laboratory currently supports testing of concrete and construction materials for various parameters.

The National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) is an autonomous constituent board of the Quality Council of India that assesses the technical competence of testing, calibration and medical laboratories.
