The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested two police personnel attached to the Mir Chowk Police Station in Hyderabad for allegedly demanding a bribe to close a case registered against a complainant’s father and refrain from taking coercive action against him. The accused have been identified as Inspector M. Kondal Rao and Home Guard Abid Ali.

According to the ACB, Inspector Kondal Rao allegedly demanded ₹6 lakh from the complainant in exchange for closing the case against his father, avoiding further coercive measures and extending cooperation in the future. The investigation revealed that the inspector allegedly agreed to receive an initial payment of ₹3 lakh through Home Guard Abid Ali as part of the arrangement.

Officials from the ACB City Range-1 unit launched an operation on October 27 after taking action in connection with the alleged bribery demand. During the operation, the home guard was caught while allegedly accepting the money. The officials subsequently seized ₹3 lakh in alleged bribe money from his possession.

The agency said its preliminary findings indicated that the accused had allegedly sought to obtain an illegal financial benefit by misusing their official positions. The alleged demand was linked to the handling of the case against the complainant’s father, raising concerns about the misuse of police authority for personal gain.

Following the operation, the ACB arrested both Kondal Rao and Abid Ali and initiated further legal proceedings. The accused were produced before the Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases at Nampally, Hyderabad. The authorities also took steps to send them to judicial remand as part of the proceedings.

The ACB has not disclosed the complainant’s identity, citing security concerns. Further investigation is continuing to establish the complete details of the alleged transaction and determine whether additional aspects of the case require scrutiny.

The arrests underscore the role of the anti-corruption agency in acting on allegations of bribery involving public servants. The investigation will now focus on establishing the evidence surrounding the alleged demand and acceptance of money in return for favourable treatment in a criminal case. The allegations against the two personnel remain subject to the legal process.
