Telangana Assembly Budget Session Begins Today

The budget session of the Telangana Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council will commence today. The state Cabinet has decided that the session will continue until March 30 .

In this regard, a high-level preparatory meeting was held under the chairmanship of Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar and Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy .

The Governor will address both Houses today . The state government will present the 2026–27 financial year budget on March 20 . During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the conduct of the sessions, security arrangements , and the provision of necessary infrastructure for members. The Speaker and the Chairman directed officials to ensure that the proceedings are conducted smoothly. Officials informed that all works in the Assembly premises by the Roads and Buildings Department have been completed .

Senior officials from various departments attended the meeting and submitted reports on law and order and protocol arrangements . There is widespread interest in the budget session , which the government considers prestigious.

Meanwhile, there is considerable suspense over the stance of the opposition BRS during the Assembly budget session. In particular, discussions are ongoing over whether party president KCR will attend the House throughout the session or, as in the past, make only brief appearances.

The BRS conducted a special workshop at Gandipet for its public representatives to train them on highlighting the government’s failures. On the other hand, the Speaker’s rejection of complaints against 10 MLAs who switched parties and the disposal of related petitions in the Supreme Court have raised curiosity over how the BRS will respond to the issue in the House. Having boycotted previous sessions , it remains to be seen what strategy the party will adopt in the upcoming budget discussions .

Like the BRS MLAs, BJP legislators are also preparing to participate in the Assembly budget session. They have drawn up a specific action plan to question the government on public issues . BJP leaders have decided to raise matters such as budget allocations, unemployment allowance, and utilisation of central funds in the Assembly.
