Telangana Cabinet Subcommittee to Study Mudiraj Community’s Shift to BC-A Category
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has announced that a Cabinet subcommittee will examine the proposal to shift the Mudiraj community from BC-D to BC-A after reviewing caste census data, legal implications and the concerns of other communities. He assured that the government would take an informed decision to ensure social justice without creating legal complications. The Chief Minister also announced plans to install statues of Panduga Sayanna and Doddi Komuraiah near Tank Bund in Hyderabad.
Speaking at the government's official celebration of the 174th birth anniversary of Panduga Sayanna Mudiraj at Ravindra Bharathi, Revanth Reddy paid floral tributes to the historical figure and released songs commemorating his legacy. He recalled that earlier proposals to include Mudirajs in BC-A had faced legal hurdles because of insufficient statistical evidence.
The Chief Minister said the Cabinet subcommittee would study the proposal using the state's caste census findings, consult legal experts and officials, and submit its recommendations for a final Cabinet decision. Addressing concerns that the proposed reclassification could disadvantage the Gangaputra community, he asked Minister Ponnam Prabhakar to consult representatives of both communities.
Revanth Reddy said the government had collected detailed caste-related data to help backward communities seek their rightful share in education, employment and economic opportunities. He urged residents to report omissions or errors in census records, assuring them that corrections could be made.
Paying tribute to Panduga Sayanna, the Chief Minister described him as a fighter for the poor who challenged the dominance of landlords and jagirdars. He also recalled the contributions of Sarvai Papanna Goud, Doddi Komuraiah, Konda Laxman Bapuji, Jyotirao Phule and Chakali Ilamma, stressing that their struggles deserved greater recognition.
Revanth Reddy promised to strengthen the political representation of Mudirajs and asked the state Congress leadership to consider an MLC nomination for the community. He cited previous party nominations given to Srihari Mudiraj and Neelam Madhu.
Highlighting welfare initiatives, the Chief Minister said fine rice was being distributed to 3.48 crore people, free electricity was reaching 55 lakh households, and the Rajiv Aarogyasri coverage limit had been raised to ₹10 lakh. He also cited farmer loan waivers, free bus travel for women and the sanctioning of eight lakh Indiramma houses as key measures aimed at improving living conditions for disadvantaged sections.
