Telangana Cabinet to Meet Today, Focus on Rural Livelihoods and Development Agenda
The Telangana Cabinet is scheduled to meet today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy , with a range of key policy, welfare and development issues expected to come up for discussion. The meeting, the 34th Cabinet session of the present government, will begin at 3 p.m. in the Cabinet Meeting Hall on the sixth floor of the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat in Hyderabad.
The meeting assumes significance as the state government weighs its response to the Centre's proposed VB-G RAM G rural employment framework , which has sparked concerns over funding responsibilities and implementation. Telangana has expressed reservations about the scheme's 60:40 Centre-State funding formula , arguing that it could impose a substantial financial burden on the state. A ministerial sub-committee has reportedly concluded that the revised arrangement may require Telangana to bear thousands of crores of rupees in additional expenditure.
Against this backdrop, the Cabinet is expected to deliberate on possible legal and administrative options, including whether the state should approach the Supreme Court and coordinate with other states that have raised similar concerns. Ministers may also explore alternatives to ensure that rural workers and farmers do not face disruptions in employment opportunities. One proposal likely to be discussed is the creation of a state-specific rural employment guarantee mechanism tailored to Telangana's requirements.
Agriculture is expected to be another major focus area. With the Kharif season underway, the government is likely to review the availability and distribution of seeds and fertilisers, assess sowing progress and discuss measures to encourage crop diversification . Officials may also brief the Cabinet on weather-related developments and potential risks to cultivation, enabling the government to formulate contingency plans for farmers.
The Cabinet is also expected to review the progress of major welfare initiatives, pending infrastructure projects and the ongoing Yadadri Temple development programme . Discussions may cover administrative clearances for key projects, implementation of recently launched welfare schemes and preparations for upcoming local body elections , which are expected to be a major political exercise in the state.
Ahead of the meeting, departments were instructed to submit agenda proposals to the General Administration (Cabinet) Department and ensure the availability of senior officials during the proceedings. The session will also be among the first major Cabinet meetings held after Sanjay Jaju assumed charge as Telangana Chief Secretary , succeeding K. Ramakrishna Rao following his retirement.
