Telangana Doubles AYUSH Stipends for House Surgeons, PG Students

The Telangana government has announced a substantial hike in stipends for house surgeons and postgraduate students pursuing Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Unani and Naturopathy courses, offering major financial relief to students undergoing clinical training. The government has issued an official order revising the existing stipend structure.

Under the revised rates, the monthly stipend for AYUSH house surgeons has been increased from Rs 13,754 to Rs 29,792. The stipend for postgraduate students has also been more than doubled, rising from Rs 34,385 to Rs 74,482. The revision brings the stipends of AYUSH medical students on par with those received by students pursuing allopathic medical courses.

AYUSH students and doctors met Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha at the Secretariat on Wednesday to express their gratitude for the decision. During the meeting, the minister handed over a copy of the government order detailing the revised stipend rates to the students.

The students said the hike had come as a major relief after years of financial difficulties. They pointed out that the previous government had not revised their stipends even once during its 10-year tenure, leaving many students struggling to meet expenses while pursuing their medical education and clinical training.

Welcoming the latest decision, the students said they were particularly pleased that their stipends had now been brought on par with those of allopathic medical students. They thanked Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha for addressing their long-pending demand.

Interacting with the students, Rajanarsimha congratulated them and urged them to make the most of their training to become competent doctors and provide quality healthcare to the public. He said education should not be viewed merely as a means of securing employment, but should also serve as a foundation for personal development and social transformation.

The minister also highlighted the steps taken by the state government over the past two-and-a-half years to strengthen the AYUSH healthcare system. As part of these efforts, around 700 yoga instructors have been appointed across Telangana, while 138 assistant professors have been recruited in Ayurveda, Homoeopathy and Unani departments.

The government said these measures are aimed at strengthening AYUSH education and healthcare services while creating better opportunities and support systems for students and professionals in the sector.
