Telangana Government to Boost Handloom Sector and Weaver Livelihoods: Seethakka

Reaffirming the Telangana government's commitment to the handloom sector, Panchayat Raj Minister Dr. Danasari Anasuya (Seethakka) said the administration is focused on expanding support for weavers by creating sustainable employment opportunities and improving market access for handloom products. She described agriculture and handlooms as the "two eyes" of the state government, underlining their importance to Telangana's economy and cultural identity.

Speaking at the National Handloom Day celebrations held at People's Plaza, Necklace Road, Hyderabad, Seethakka attended the state-level event as the chief guest and inaugurated a handloom exhibition showcasing a wide range of traditional sarees and textiles woven by artisans from different districts.

During her visit, the minister interacted with weavers, closely examined their creations, and praised their craftsmanship. She also tried her hand at weaving on a traditional loom, gaining first-hand insight into the skill and effort involved in producing handloom fabrics.

Addressing the gathering, Seethakka extended National Handloom Day greetings to handloom workers across the country, with special wishes to the weavers of Telangana. She noted that weavers are among the hardest-working communities after farmers and emphasized that every handwoven saree represents far more than threads and fabric. According to her, each creation reflects the dreams of a family, the dedication of artisans, and generations of traditional craftsmanship.

The minister said the evolution of clothing marked a significant milestone in the growth of human civilization and added that every thread woven by Telangana's artisans symbolizes the country's rich cultural heritage. She stressed that handloom is not merely an occupation but an enduring representation of India's traditions, culture, and identity.

The event was also attended by Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, Telangana State Handloom Development Corporation Chairman Doodem Venkataramana, former MP Gundu Sudharani, public representatives, government officials, and members of the handloom community.
