In a significant relief for thousands of medical aspirants, the Telangana government has announced free bus travel for students appearing for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination on June 21. The move is aimed at ensuring that candidates reach their examination centres without facing transportation hurdles or additional financial burden.

State Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said students can travel free of cost on TGSRTC buses by simply showing their NEET hall ticket . The minister stated that necessary instructions have been issued to the transport corporation to facilitate hassle-free travel for candidates across the state on the day of the examination.

The decision comes as part of the government's effort to support students who have been required to take the examination again following the cancellation of the original test. Officials said the free-travel initiative would be particularly beneficial for candidates from rural and remote areas , many of whom need to travel long distances to reach examination centres in Hyderabad and other cities.

According to the government, reducing travel-related stress is a key objective behind the initiative. By eliminating transportation costs and ensuring easy access to examination venues, authorities hope students can focus entirely on their performance in one of India's most competitive entrance examinations.

The NEET re-exam is being conducted after the original test held in May was scrapped amid allegations of a question paper leak , triggering concerns over the integrity of the examination process. In response, the National Testing Agency (NTA) scheduled a fresh examination for June 21 and has already issued revised hall tickets to eligible candidates.

Meanwhile, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan chaired a high-level review meeting on Thursday to assess preparations for the nationwide re-examination. The meeting was attended by officials from the Education Ministry, representatives of state governments, the NTA, and higher education institutions. Authorities were directed to ensure strict security measures and smooth conduct of the examination.

The re-test will be held from 2:00 pm to 5:15 pm . With more than 22 lakh students having appeared for the original NEET examination, the re-exam presents a major logistical challenge for authorities across the country.
