The Telangana Government is set to accelerate the rollout of the proposed Employee Health Scheme (EHS) aimed at providing comprehensive healthcare coverage to government employees and pensioners across the state. As part of the process, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will hold a high-level review meeting with senior officials on Monday to examine the scheme’s operational framework and implementation strategy.

According to official sources, the meeting will focus on key aspects of the programme, including the establishment of a dedicated trust, identification of beneficiaries, collection of employee and pensioner data, and mechanisms to ensure smooth execution of the healthcare initiative.

To enhance transparency and effective administration, the government is planning to constitute a special Employee Health Care Trust to oversee the scheme. The proposed trust is expected to include six representatives from employee unions and two representatives from pensioners’ associations , ensuring stakeholder participation in decision-making. A senior state government official is also likely to be appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the trust. An official announcement regarding the trust structure is expected following the Chief Minister’s review.

Meanwhile, groundwork for the scheme is already underway. The Finance Department has directed all government departments to collect and submit comprehensive details of employees, pensioners and their family members. Departments have been instructed to upload the information online in a prescribed format, including personal particulars, family details and service records.

The beneficiary database is expected to form the foundation of the new healthcare system. Based on the information collected, the government plans to issue Digital Health Cards to all eligible beneficiaries. These cards will enable employees and pensioners to access cashless medical treatment at empanelled network hospitals approved under the scheme.

Officials believe the initiative will significantly improve access to quality healthcare for government employees, retirees and their families. By facilitating treatment at recognised hospitals without upfront payments, the scheme is expected to reduce the financial burden associated with medical emergencies and specialised healthcare services.

The government views the Employee Health Scheme as a major welfare measure that could strengthen social security for thousands of serving and retired employees while ensuring timely access to quality medical care across Telangana.
