Telangana Sees Record Participation in Employment Guarantee Works

The Telangana government is stepping up efforts to provide continuous employment to rural workers through employment guarantee works, particularly as agricultural activity is declining under the impact of El Nino conditions. With farm-related opportunities shrinking, the government is focusing on making more employment guarantee works available to rural labourers as an alternative source of livelihood. The measures have resulted in a significant increase in worker participation during October.

As many as 2,54,812 workers attended employment guarantee works across the state on Tuesday, marking the highest single-day attendance recorded in Telangana since the implementation of VB-G RAM G began, according to the government.

The latest figures highlight a sharp change in the demand for employment under the programme. In October 2025, the state recorded an average daily attendance of just 24,750 wage seekers. This year, however, the average daily participation has climbed to around 2.16 lakh workers, reflecting a substantial rise in demand for employment opportunities in rural areas.

The increase comes at a time when agricultural employment is being affected by El Nino conditions. With fewer farm activities available, employment guarantee works are emerging as an important source of income for rural households. The government is therefore seeking to ensure that workers who need employment are able to access available works without delays.

Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Seethakka has directed officials to strengthen the implementation of employment guarantee works and ensure income security for rural families during periods when agricultural activity is limited.

The Minister has been holding regular reviews with district officials and monitoring the situation at the grassroots level. She has instructed authorities to ensure that every family seeking work in villages is provided employment at the earliest possible opportunity.

Officials have also been asked to take special measures at the village level to identify potential workers and encourage greater participation in the programme. Seethakka directed authorities to issue job cards to those seeking new employment guarantee cards within 15 days.

Field-level officials have been instructed to identify workers who require employment, provide them with information about available works and create greater awareness about the opportunities.

The government is seeking to use the employment guarantee programme more effectively during periods of reduced agricultural activity, with the broader objective of ensuring employment and income security for rural households across Telangana.
