Telangana Set to Launch First-Ever State Television Awards

The Telangana Government has taken a significant step towards recognising excellence in the television industry by initiating the process to institute its first-ever State Television Awards, aimed at honouring outstanding talent and encouraging quality programming rooted in the state's cultural identity.

The roadmap for the awards was discussed at a high-level review meeting chaired by State Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy. The meeting was attended by MLC Shankar Naik, Film Development Corporation (FDC) Managing Director Mukunda Reddy, and members of the Television Awards Committee, who deliberated on the awards' guidelines, logo, branding and selection process.

Addressing the meeting, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said television continues to be one of the most influential mediums of entertainment and public engagement, particularly for women, senior citizens and family audiences. He noted that the awards are being instituted to recognise excellence among actors, directors, writers, technicians, socially relevant serials and children's programmes, while encouraging quality storytelling and raising production standards across the industry.

The minister stressed that both the name and logo of the awards should reflect the spirit, heritage and unique identity of Telangana, giving the honours a distinct cultural character. He directed officials to finalise the branding and operational framework at the earliest.

The committee also proposed naming the awards after former Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao, the Telangana-born statesman, celebrated multilingual scholar and architect of India's landmark economic reforms of 1991. Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said the proposal would be placed before Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for consideration before any final decision is taken.

Emphasising the importance of credibility, the minister instructed the committee to ensure that the selection process remains transparent, impartial and merit-based, as these would be the first television awards instituted by the state government. He also asked FDC MD Mukunda Reddy to identify a suitable venue for hosting the inaugural awards ceremony.

The proposed television honours are expected to complement the state's broader efforts to strengthen its creative industries. Following the launch of the Telangana Gaddar Film Awards, the new initiative is seen as another milestone in recognising excellence across both cinema and television while celebrating Telangana's rich artistic and cultural legacy.
