

Telangana, South Africa Forge Partnership in Education, Healthcare and Technology
Telangana and South Africa have agreed to explore deeper cooperation in education, medical tourism, technology, and investment , laying the groundwork for a broader partnership aimed at boosting economic growth and knowledge exchange between the two regions.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and South African Deputy President Paul Mashatile , who is currently on an official visit to India. The discussions focused on strengthening institutional ties, encouraging business collaboration, and creating new opportunities in sectors where both sides see significant growth potential.
Highlighting South Africa’s strategic importance, Mashatile said the country offers Indian businesses a strong entry point into the African continent through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) . He noted that companies establishing operations in South Africa can access a much larger regional market, making it an attractive destination for investment. The South African leader also expressed interest in working closely with Telangana in the areas of science, technology, innovation, and industrial development .
According to officials, South Africa is keen to attract greater participation from Indian companies, particularly in sectors such as pharmaceuticals and advanced manufacturing. Mashatile assured that the South African High Commission in New Delhi would actively support efforts to strengthen business and institutional partnerships between Telangana and South Africa.
Thanking the Telangana government for the warm welcome extended to his delegation, Mashatile congratulated the people of the state on the occasion of Telangana Formation Day . He praised Telangana’s rapid transformation, describing it as a model of innovation-driven growth and entrepreneurship. Despite being one of India’s youngest states, Telangana has emerged as a major contributor to the national economy and continues to attract global attention for its development trajectory, he said.
In response, Revanth Reddy reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting South African companies interested in investing in Telangana. He highlighted the state’s investor-friendly policies , efficient industrial ecosystem, and expanding infrastructure network, which have helped attract investments across multiple sectors.
The Chief Minister pointed to Hyderabad’s growing reputation as a global knowledge and innovation hub , driven by its strong educational institutions and skilled workforce. He said the city has established itself as a leading destination for industries such as information technology, pharmaceuticals, defence, and aerospace , while also emerging as a preferred location for Global Capability Centres (GCCs) of multinational corporations.
Revanth Reddy also showcased Hyderabad’s world-class healthcare ecosystem, noting that thousands of international patients travel to the city every year for high-quality and affordable medical treatment . He said this presents a significant opportunity for expanding medical tourism links between Telangana and South Africa.
Recalling the success of the Telangana Rising Global Summit 2025 , which brought together global investors, diplomats, and industry leaders, the Chief Minister formally invited senior South African officials and business representatives to participate in the next edition of the summit scheduled for December 2026 . He expressed confidence that stronger engagement between Telangana and South Africa would open new avenues for trade, innovation, investment, and long-term economic cooperation.
