Telangana to Launch Ration Card Distribution for 1.05 Crore Beneficiaries on August 15

The Telangana government is set to roll out one of its biggest welfare initiatives this year with the statewide distribution of new Public Distribution System (PDS) ration cards beginning on August 15. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will formally inaugurate the programme in Sangareddy, while parallel distribution events will be held across all 119 Assembly constituencies, marking a coordinated effort to strengthen food security and expand access to government welfare.

Announcing the programme, Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said the launch in Sangareddy will be followed by simultaneous distribution drives in every constituency. Public representatives and district officials will hand over the new ration cards to eligible beneficiaries, ensuring the initiative reaches households across Telangana on the same day.

The government expects the exercise to cover around 1.05 crore beneficiaries, bringing thousands of eligible families under the ambit of the Public Distribution System. The initiative is aimed at ensuring that deserving households receive subsidised rice and other essential commodities while improving access to welfare programmes that require a valid ration card as proof of eligibility.

Officials said the distribution is part of the government's broader strategy to make welfare delivery more inclusive and efficient. Besides providing access to food security benefits, ration cards also serve as an important document for availing various state welfare schemes, making them a crucial link between beneficiaries and government services.

According to Uttam Kumar Reddy, the programme represents a significant milestone in the state's welfare agenda. He said the government's priority is to ensure that no eligible family is left out of the food security network and that every deserving household can benefit from welfare initiatives without administrative hurdles.

Telangana already has a large number of active ration card holders, and the latest distribution drive is expected to further expand the reach of the state's food security framework. Officials believe the move will enhance transparency in beneficiary identification while streamlining the delivery of subsidised food grains through the PDS.

By choosing Independence Day for the launch, the government aims to underscore its commitment to inclusive development and social welfare. Ministers, MLAs, district collectors and local public representatives are expected to participate in the distribution programmes across the state, making it one of Telangana's largest coordinated welfare outreach exercises in recent years.
