The Telangana government will conduct a special Varuna Yagam at Nagarjuna Sagar on August 10 seeking abundant rainfall across the state and improved water availability for agriculture.

The ritual will be held at the Vijay Vihar premises near the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam under the supervision of the Endowments Department. Priests and Vedic scholars from the Yadadri Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple will perform the religious ceremonies following the auspicious time fixed by traditional scholars and experts.

The government said the programme is aimed at praying for the full replenishment of major water resources, including the Krishna and Godavari rivers, reservoirs, and irrigation tanks, while also seeking prosperity for farmers and better agricultural output.

The event will be conducted under the guidance of Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will participate in the Maha Purnahuti ceremony scheduled at 3:24 PM after the completion of the main rituals.

The decision to conduct the Varuna Yagam comes amid concerns over rainfall patterns during the ongoing southwest monsoon season. The state government noted that rainfall has been below normal due to the impact of El Nino conditions, affecting expectations related to water inflows and agricultural activities.

Through the special Vedic ceremony, the government has expressed its intention to seek timely and sufficient rainfall, ensure that irrigation sources receive adequate water, and create favourable conditions for farmers across Telangana.

Officials said the programme reflects the government's efforts to address concerns over water availability and support the farming community during the current agricultural season.
