Territorial Army, Genrobotics Join Hands on AI-Enabled Defence Robotics

Robotics company Genrobotics has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Territorial Army (TA) to collaborate on robotics research, technology evaluation, training and capability development, the company said on Saturday.

The agreement was signed at the KYTA & TA 2.0 Symposium in Kolkata by Maj Gen SS Patil on behalf of the Territorial Army and Genrobotics CEO and co-founder Vimal Govind M K.

The partnership will focus on developing and evaluating robotic solutions for hazardous environments, disaster response and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations. It will also cover confined-space operations, critical infrastructure inspection, engineer support, AI-enabled inspection, remote sensing and indigenous research and development. As part of the collaboration, the two sides will undertake technology demonstrations, user trials and specialist training, aimed at strengthening the adoption of robotics for challenging operational environments.

Genrobotics, known for its robotic systems for hazardous and confined-space applications, has developed the Bandicoot robot for manhole and sewer-cleaning operations. The company has increasingly expanded its work into disaster response and defence-related robotics.

At the symposium, Genrobotics showcased several technologies with potential defence applications, including G-Bot, a bipedal robot prototype and its first public showcase of a pure humanoid robot. Other systems displayed included Genbot, designed for critical infrastructure missions requiring human-level accessibility, a robotic rover and G-KAI, an upper-body rehabilitation device.

The company currently operates across five sectors, including sanitation, medical, oil and gas, and defence and space. It has also strengthened its defence technology team by bringing in retired engineers from ISRO and the Indian Army. Earlier, Genrobotics inaugurated a new production facility in Thumba, dedicated to research, development and manufacturing for defence and space applications.

The company said the partnership with the Territorial Army marks a step towards deploying indigenous robotics capabilities for national security, disaster management and other critical missions.
