Telangana Minister for IT and Industries, Sridhar Babu, announced that the state’s collaboration with Australia’s prestigious RMIT University marks a major milestone in its journey toward becoming a global leader in life sciences and innovation.

Speaking about the partnership, the minister said the agreement will strengthen Telangana’s efforts to connect research, higher education, and industry in the life sciences sector. This strategic collaboration with RMIT - one of Australia’s top institutions - aims to enhance research capabilities, promote advanced learning, and accelerate industry integration.

Building a global-ready workforce Sridhar Babu noted that Telangana is developing innovation hubs, laboratories, specialized training programs, and industry-oriented curricula through coordination among various government departments. These initiatives are designed to bridge the gap between students, researchers, and industry professionals.

Through this partnership, the state also aims to attract global talent and drive cutting-edge research and technology development in the life sciences field.

The minister emphasized that the collaboration will play a crucial role in shaping the next phase of growth for Hyderabad’s Genome Valley - already one of the leading life sciences clusters in Asia. Telangana currently hosts over 2,000 pharma and biotech companies. Leveraging local talent, research expertise, and global partnerships, the state is moving steadily toward its goal of building a $250 billion (₹20.75 lakh crore) life sciences economy by 2030, he said.

“Our partnership with RMIT will further accelerate this vision and help position Telangana as a global hub for life sciences innovation,” Sridhar Babu added. The government, he noted, is determined to make Telangana a top player in the global “life sciences economy” through sustained innovation and international collaborations.

Strong investment and industrial growth Telangana’s life sciences sector has witnessed remarkable progress in recent years. Between December 2024 and August 2025 alone, the state attracted investments worth ₹54,000 crore (approximately USD 6.5 billion), according to the Telangana Life Sciences Council.

Hyderabad’s Genome Valley - home to over 2,000 biotech and pharma firms - has been recognized as one of the world’s leading R&D clusters. These investments are expected to create nearly 200,000 new jobs, further solidifying Telangana’s position as a life sciences powerhouse.
