The Telangana State Power Generation Corporation Limited ( TGGENCO) has suspended B. Suresh Naik, Chief Engineer of Stage-I at the Yadadri Thermal Power Station in Dameracherla, Nalgonda district, over allegations of negligence in efforts to increase electricity generation and lapses in supervision. The suspension has come into immediate effect pending a departmental inquiry.

The decision follows internal reviews that reportedly identified shortcomings in work planning, supervision and the execution of priority tasks at the power station. Officials are understood to have raised concerns over the manner in which key activities were being monitored and implemented, prompting the corporation to initiate action against the senior engineer.

In a parallel move to strengthen oversight of the facility, the state government has appointed five IAS officers as special officers to monitor operations at the Yadadri Thermal Power Station. The officers - Harikishan, Venkatesh Dotre, Rahul Raj, Hanumanth Kondiba and Sivakumar Naidu - have been assigned responsibility for overseeing electricity generation and coal supplies.

Their appointment is aimed at ensuring closer monitoring of the plant’s functioning and addressing operational issues that could affect power production. The focus on coal availability is particularly significant, as a steady supply of fuel is essential for maintaining generation levels and meeting the state’s electricity requirements.

The developments come after Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed officials to ensure an uninterrupted power supply to safeguard farmers’ crops. The Chief Minister issued the instructions on Wednesday, underlining the importance of reliable electricity during agricultural operations.

Revanth Reddy also issued a strong warning that negligence would not be tolerated at any level of the administration. He said action would be taken against officials who failed to discharge their duties properly, including the Energy Department’s Special Chief Secretary, the TGGENCO Chairman and Managing Director, and the IAS officers entrusted with monitoring the power station.

The suspension of the chief engineer marks a significant step in the government’s efforts to enforce accountability in the power sector. With senior officials now tasked with monitoring generation and coal supplies, the administration is seeking to prevent operational lapses and ensure a reliable electricity supply, particularly for the farming community.

The departmental inquiry against Suresh Naik remains pending.
