Third Time's the Charm! Jackson Koivun Claims Dream PGA Tour Title at 3M Open

Jackson Koivun announced his arrival on the biggest stage in style, winning the 3M Open in just his third professional start after holding off World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler by three strokes in a memorable finish at TPC Twin Cities in Minnesota.

The 21-year-old closed with a five-under 66 to finish at a tournament-record 25-under 259, surpassing the previous event record of 24-under 260 set in 2023. The victory also made him the fourth rookie winner on the PGA Tour this season.

Koivun entered the final round with a three-shot advantage, but the pressure intensified as Scheffler, playing five groups ahead, produced a sensational nine-under 63 to briefly raise hopes of another remarkable comeback. Spectators repeatedly informed Koivun that "Scottie's coming," yet the young American stayed composed throughout his round.

A crucial moment came at the ninth hole when Koivun calmly rolled in a difficult par-saving putt after finding the bunker with his approach. The save preserved his lead and gave him confidence heading into the back nine. He remained flawless for the second consecutive day, completing another bogey-free round before sealing the title with a birdie on the 16th hole.

Scheffler, whose only victory this season came at The American Express, finished runner-up for the fifth time this year despite an outstanding final-round charge. Afterward, the World No. 1 praised Koivun's maturity, saying the youngster showed exceptional mental strength for someone making such an early impact as a professional.

The victory earned Koivun $1.584 million in prize money and lifted him 124 places to 70th in the FedEx Cup standings, moving him inside the playoff qualification line with two regular-season events remaining.

Fresh from helping Auburn University win the NCAA national championship, Koivun has made a seamless transition into the professional ranks. The Californian, who later moved to North Carolina, credited his belief and decision-making rather than raw talent for his rapid rise.

With a record-breaking victory over one of golf's greatest players, Koivun has announced himself as one of the sport's brightest young stars.
