Security forces have arrested four militants belonging to different proscribed outfits in Manipur, officials said on Thursday.

Two cadres of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), Kshetrimayum Krishna Das and Khunumayum Sangar Singh, were apprehended near Shaibol, close to the India-Myanmar border in Tengnoupal district.

Officials said the arrests followed intelligence inputs about the “desertion and likely infiltration” of the two cadres from the PLA’s Minthar camp. The arrested men were handed over to police for further legal proceedings.

A 46-year-old PLA member, Nepram Singhajit Singh, was arrested from Khurai Puthiba Leikai in Imphal East district on Wednesday, police said. He was allegedly involved in recruiting new cadres for the militant outfit.

Police said Singh was arrested when he came to the area to arrange bus tickets for newly recruited cadres travelling to Ukhrul, a district that shares a border with Myanmar.

In another operation, security forces arrested a self-styled captain of the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak-Progressive (PREPAK-Pro) from Chandrakhong in Thoubal district, officials said.

The accused, identified as Moirangthem Boboy Singh, was apprehended during vehicle checking based on information about the alleged infiltration of a senior cadre of the outfit from Myanmar through Kamjong.

Police alleged that Boboy Singh was involved in recruiting four teenagers from Bishnupur district and sending them to Myanmar.

The operations followed separate intelligence inputs from agencies, officials said. The arrested PLA cadres were handed over to police, while the PREPAK-Pro member was also taken into custody for further legal proceedings. Officials did not provide details of any additional arrests or seizures in the operations.

The arrests come amid security operations against proscribed militant groups in Manipur. Authorities have continued to act on intelligence inputs concerning cadre movement, recruitment and suspected infiltration along areas close to the Myanmar border.

The allegations against the arrested persons will be subject to investigation and legal proceedings. Police and security agencies are examining the circumstances of the arrests and the alleged activities of the accused.
