Three Police Personnel Arrested for Helping Golaghat Jail Inmates Escape

Three police personnel have been arrested in Assam's Golaghat district for their alleged involvement in helping three inmates escape from custody, an official said on Sunday.

According to Golaghat Senior Superintendent of Police Rajen Singh, the three inmates, described as dreaded criminals, escaped from Swahid Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital on Saturday while they were undergoing medical treatment.

The prisoners had been brought to the hospital from Golaghat District Jail for treatment when they managed to flee from custody. The circumstances surrounding their escape prompted an immediate investigation by the district police.

Speaking about the probe, Singh said investigators found that three police personnel had allegedly assisted the inmates in escaping. The personnel were subsequently arrested for their suspected involvement in the incident.

"During our investigation, we found that three personnel assisted in their escape. We immediately arrested the three police personnel for their involvement in the escape," Singh said.

The arrests have raised questions over the security arrangements in place while prisoners are taken outside jail premises for medical treatment. Police are now investigating the circumstances that led to the alleged assistance provided to the escapees and are examining the role of those arrested.

Meanwhile, the Golaghat police have launched a manhunt to trace and apprehend the three escaped inmates. Search operations are underway, with police teams working to locate the fugitives and bring them back into custody.

Authorities are also expected to examine how the prisoners managed to escape from the hospital and whether any other individuals were involved in facilitating their flight.

The incident has brought renewed attention to the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in maintaining security around undertrial and convicted prisoners receiving treatment outside jail facilities.
