Touax, Texmaco and TrinityRail Forge India's First Global Railcar Leasing Platform

Global rail leasing company Touax Group , Kolkata-based Texmaco Rail & Engineering Ltd , and US-based TrinityRail Global Inc have formed a strategic partnership to expand railcar leasing solutions in India and support the country's growing freight rail sector.

As part of the arrangement, TrinityRail will acquire a 32 per cent stake in Touax Texmaco Railcar Leasing Pvt Ltd (TTRL), the existing joint venture between Touax and Texmaco. The partners described the venture as India's first global railcar leasing platform , integrating manufacturing, leasing, financing and lifecycle management services.

The platform aims to serve India's freight rail market, estimated at around Rs 3 lakh crore , by introducing advanced wagon designs, professional leasing models and maintenance solutions that improve asset utilisation and reduce operating costs.

Texmaco Chairman Saroj Kumar Poddar said the partnership combines Touax's leasing expertise, Trinity's rail technology capabilities and Texmaco's manufacturing strength to create a globally benchmarked platform for India's freight ecosystem.

The announcement comes as India seeks to increase rail's share of freight transportation from 27 per cent to 45 per cent , a shift expected to generate significant demand for freight wagons and attract greater private investment.

The venture will offer an integrated ecosystem covering wagon design, manufacturing, leasing, maintenance and financing. It will also promote indigenised manufacturing through Texmaco's facilities and Global Capability Centre in line with the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Industry observers say the partnership could help modernise India's freight logistics sector by expanding access to asset-light leasing models and accelerating the adoption of modern rolling stock.
