'Toxic' OTT Deal Takes A Hit As ZEE5 Reportedly Offers Just Rs. 30 Crore
Yash’s much-awaited gangster action drama 'Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups' is reportedly facing another major setback, with its digital rights valuation dropping sharply after its disappointing theatrical performance. The latest buzz suggests that ZEE5 has offered just Rs. 30 crore for the film’s OTT rights, with a payment condition that could make the deal even more challenging for the makers.
Before the film’s theatrical release, the team reportedly received an OTT offer of Rs. 150 crore from a leading streaming platform. However, the makers were said to be targeting a much bigger deal, with expectations reportedly exceeding Rs. 200 crore. Yash was reportedly confident that a strong box-office performance would help the film secure a significantly higher digital price.
Things, however, did not go as planned. Released on August 26, 2026, 'Toxic' opened strongly but struggled to sustain its momentum amid negative audience reactions and disappointing word of mouth. The film, directed by Geetu Mohandas, reportedly carried a massive Rs. 500 crore budget, making its theatrical performance a significant concern for the team.
According to the latest reports, ZEE5’s proposed Rs. 30 crore offer comes with an additional condition. Only Rs. 15 crore would reportedly be paid upfront, while the remaining Rs. 15 crore would depend on revenue generated through a pay-per-view model. This means the makers may not receive the entire amount unless the film meets the required digital viewing targets.
The reported decline in valuation is substantial, particularly considering the earlier offer and the team’s expectations. Industry reports have also suggested that the film’s makers could face losses of around Rs. 300 crore, although the figure has not been officially confirmed.
Adding to the uncertainty, reports indicate that the team is considering a different OTT cut to make the film more suitable for streaming audiences and improve its commercial prospects. The film’s adult-oriented storytelling has also reportedly raised concerns about its satellite rights revenue.
Starring Yash alongside Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth, 'Toxic' was expected to be a major pan-India release. However, its reported OTT negotiations have now become another talking point.
