Tragedy at Jammu BSF Camp as ASI Lal Singh Dies by Suicide Using Service Rifle
An Assistant Sub-Inspector Lal Singh of the Border Security Force (BSF) allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself with his service rifle inside a camp in Jammu on Sunday morning, officials said.
The incident occurred at the BSF campus in Paloura , located on the outskirts of Jammu. Singh, a resident of Madhya Pradesh, was on duty at the camp when he reportedly used his service weapon to take his own life.
According to officials, Singh had rejoined his unit on June 13 , just a day before the incident, after availing nearly a one-month leave . No suicide note has been recovered so far, and the exact reason behind the extreme step remains unknown.
On receiving information, senior BSF officers and Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel rushed to the spot. The body was shifted to a hospital for postmortem examination and other medico-legal formalities.
Officials have initiated an inquest procedure to determine the circumstances surrounding the death and to rule out any other possible factors. Early reports suggest no foul play has been indicated at the scene, though investigation is ongoing.
The BSF, one of India’s key border guarding forces , has faced similar incidents in the past, with authorities often citing stress and personal issues as potential but unconfirmed factors in such cases.
