A desperate 39-hour rescue operation in Rajasthan ended in heartbreak on Saturday after nine-year-old Bhomaram, who fell into a deep borewell in Phalodi district, was pulled out but could not be saved.

The child was rescued at around 3.35 am on Saturday from a borewell in Punia Ki Dhani, where he had been trapped since Thursday afternoon. He was rushed to Lohawat Hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival, leaving his family and the local community devastated.

The incident occurred around 12.30 pm on Thursday in the Nausar gram panchayat area under Lohawat, when Bhomaram fell into a 1,050-foot-deep borewell. He was trapped at a depth of approximately 640 feet, triggering an emergency rescue operation involving the district administration, police, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).

The operation soon encountered a major obstacle when rescuers discovered a large rock lodged inside the borewell, around 30 feet above the child. The obstruction restricted the movement of rescue pipes and equipment and made it difficult to lower a camera to monitor his condition. It also hampered efforts to ensure an oxygen supply.

Phalodi Superintendent of Police Aditya Kakade said concern grew on Friday morning after a camera that had earlier captured the child's movements no longer showed any movement. Despite the uncertainty, rescue teams continued their efforts to reach him.

After repeated attempts to remove the obstruction failed, authorities called in Madaram Suthar and his team from Jalore district, who specialise in indigenous rescue techniques. The team devised a method using iron rods to dislodge the rock.

The breakthrough came after nearly 34 hours of effort, when the obstruction was finally removed, allowing rescuers to intensify their attempts to bring the child out.

However, the successful extraction brought no relief. Despite the prolonged efforts of multiple teams and the eventual removal of the obstacle, Bhomaram could not be saved.

What began as a race against time ended in an irreparable loss, with the child's family left mourning a young life and the village confronting another heartbreaking borewell tragedy.
