US President Donald Trump has expressed gratitude to India after a road adjacent to the US Consulate in Hyderabad was officially named “Donald Trump Avenue.” Calling it a rare honour, Trump thanked India for the gesture and highlighted the significance of the recognition.

Responding on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump wrote that a new “Donald Trump Avenue” had been established in Hyderabad and described himself as the first American President to receive such an honour. He concluded his message with a note of thanks to India.

The road was named during the “Freedom 250” Gala Reception , held in Hyderabad on June 23 to commemorate the upcoming 250th anniversary of American independence . The event brought together senior government officials, diplomats and industry leaders to celebrate the growing ties between India and the United States.

The commemorative plaque bearing the new road name was unveiled by Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka along with US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor. The ceremony was attended by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, US Consul General in Hyderabad Laura Williams, senior diplomats, and representatives from the defence, aerospace and technology sectors.

According to an official statement, the decision to name the road after Trump reflects the importance attached to India-US relations and underscores Hyderabad’s growing role as a key hub for bilateral cooperation. The statement noted that the city has emerged as an important centre for investment, innovation and strategic collaboration between the two countries.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Sergio Gor said Hyderabad is becoming an increasingly important pillar of the India-US strategic partnership. He pointed to the city’s rapid advancements in the technology, aerospace and defence sectors , which have strengthened economic and institutional ties between the two nations.

Gor also expressed optimism about future cooperation, citing progress toward a temporary trade agreement and the potential for more than $20 billion in investments through the “Mission India” initiative. He said deeper collaboration between the two countries would create new opportunities and deliver mutual benefits in the years ahead.
