Trump To Meet Mamdani, Macron And World Leaders During UNGA Visit

US President Donald Trump is set to hold a series of meetings with US and foreign leaders in New York this week as he attends the United Nations General Assembly, including a meeting with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani at Gracie Mansion on Monday. The talks will focus on issues affecting New York City and its residents.

Mamdani’s communications director Anna Bahr confirmed the meeting, while the White House also confirmed it without providing further details. The meeting comes despite sharp political differences between Trump and the Democratic mayor, who has previously been a frequent target of Republican criticism.

Trump and Mamdani have already met twice at the White House. Their first meeting, after Mamdani’s election, was described as cordial, with Trump saying the then mayor-elect could “surprise some conservative people”. During a February meeting, Mamdani gave Trump a mock New York Daily News front page reading “Trump to City: Let’s Build”, highlighting the potential impact of federal investment in housing.

Trump’s New York schedule also includes a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron during the UN General Assembly high-level week. He is also scheduled to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, with their talks expected to cover the Russia-Ukraine war and diplomatic efforts.

The US president is expected to hold separate meetings with UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Tuesday. Trump is also scheduled to meet Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi during the UN gathering. Reuters reported that the meetings form part of a packed two-day diplomatic schedule in New York.

Trump is further expected to hold his first in-person meeting with Venezuela’s interim president Delcy Rodríguez, following the US-backed ousting of Nicolás Maduro, according to Reuters. He will also host a reception for Gulf Cooperation Council leaders, adding a major Middle East component to his UNGA engagements.

The meetings come as the 81st UN General Assembly brings nearly 130 heads of state and government to New York. The UN's official schedule lists the high-level week from 22 to 29 September, with the General Debate beginning on September 22.

Trump is scheduled to address the General Assembly on Tuesday. His agenda is expected to include the US-Israel conflict with Iran, global shipping concerns linked to the Gulf and his administration’s foreign policy priorities.
