In a surprising departure from his usual political rhetoric, US President Donald Trump has suggested inviting former presidents, including Barack Obama , Joe Biden , and members of the Bush family , to the White House for a football watch party, describing it as an event that would capture national attention.

The remark came during an episode of "Storytime with the Second Lady," a children's podcast hosted by US Second Lady Usha Vance , which was released ahead of the 250th anniversary of American Independence . During the episode, Trump read from the book President's Play! , published by the White House Historical Association , which highlights the hobbies and leisure activities of American presidents throughout history.

As Trump reached a page depicting a president hosting a live Super Bowl viewing at the White House, he paused and floated the idea of recreating such an event with his predecessors.

"Maybe I should invite Barack Hussein Obama , Joe Biden , with the Bushes or Bush. Maybe I should invite some of those people to watch a football game together," Trump said. He added that such a reunion would create quite a buzz, joking that "the press would go wild."

Responding to the idea, Usha Vance remarked that "a presidential reunion would be fun."

The suggestion stood out because Trump has frequently criticised Obama and mocked Biden during campaign rallies, speeches and media interactions. His proposal, even if made in a lighthearted manner, hinted at a rare moment of bipartisan symbolism at a time when American politics remains deeply polarised .

The podcast also featured Trump's reflections on several former presidents as he turned the pages of the book. He offered rare praise for former President Bill Clinton , noting that he had only recently learned that Clinton had a jogging track built at the White House during his presidency.

Calling Clinton "a nice guy," Trump said he still liked the former Democratic president, although he joked that he had no plans to follow his example by building a running track.

Trump also shared humorous observations about William Howard Taft , America's heaviest president, recalling Taft's love for baseball and hot dogs. He quipped that he would have to be careful not to surpass Taft's long standing weight record .

Beyond the lighter moments, Trump reflected on the responsibilities of serving in the White House, saying that a president occupies the office only for a short period and should focus on working for the American people .

With the United States preparing to celebrate the 250th anniversary of American Independence , Trump's unexpected proposal has sparked curiosity over whether such a symbolic gathering of former presidents could ever become a reality or remain simply another memorable moment in his trademark style of public commentary.
