TVK Alleges Horse-Trading Attempt By DMK As Three Arrested In Chennai Case
The ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Wednesday alleged an attempt of horse-trading by the main opposition DMK , claiming that its legislators were targeted with inducements, even as police confirmed the arrest of three persons in connection with the case.
TVK leader and Tamil Nadu Minister R Nirmal Kumar , who holds the Energy Resources portfolio, alleged that senior leaders of the DMK leadership , including Chief Minister MK Stalin and Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin , were attempting to lure TVK MLAs with offers ranging from ₹10 crore to ₹50 crore .
He further claimed that individuals close to former DMK minister and Coimbatore South MLA V Senthil Balaji , along with his associates, had been involved in contacting party legislators to influence their stance in the Assembly.
According to the police, a complaint was filed by TVK MLA N Ilayaraja from the Uthangarai constituency in Krishnagiri district. Acting on the complaint, the city police arrested three individuals, including Naresh , Thirunavukkarasu , and Thiyagarajan , for their alleged involvement in the attempted inducement case.
Police stated that one of the accused, who claimed to be heading a political survey organisation, had allegedly offered ₹35 crore to the MLA in exchange for his cooperation on an Assembly resolution against the Speaker.
The MLA reportedly rejected the offer and warned the accused not to contact him further. However, the accused allegedly issued threats to the MLA and his family if the matter was disclosed, according to a police release.
Investigations further suggested that V Ashok Kumar , brother of Senthil Balaji, had met one of the accused in Chennai. Police also claimed that instructions were allegedly passed through intermediaries linked to the DMK leader’s network.
The investigation is currently ongoing, and further legal action is expected based on the findings.
