A fresh political confrontation has erupted in Tamil Nadu after the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) issued a legal notice to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) MLA M.R. Pallavi , accusing her of making defamatory allegations against party members in connection with recent power outages reported in parts of Chennai.

The notice, dated June 6 and issued by advocate and DMK spokesperson Saravanan , demands an unconditional public apology from the legislator for remarks allegedly made during a televised interview that was later circulated widely on social media platforms.

The controversy stems from an interview in which Pallavi was questioned about recurring power cuts in Chennai, particularly in Kolathur Constituency and surrounding areas. According to the DMK, the MLA responded by alleging that party members were behind the disruptions and had bribed officials of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board in an attempt to tarnish the image of the TVK government.

The legal notice further cites her claims that TVK workers in Royapuram had uncovered efforts by DMK members to deliberately engineer power failures through money and political influence. The ruling party has strongly rejected the allegations, describing them as "baseless, reckless and unsupported by any evidence."

According to the notice, the statements have caused serious harm to the reputation of DMK workers and created unnecessary political hostility. The party argues that the remarks have damaged the credibility and public standing of its cadres while spreading misinformation among the public.

In addition to Pallavi, the notice has also been served to the Resident Grievance Officer for YouTube (Google LLC) , as the interview was uploaded on the platform and later circulated extensively through short video clips on social media, including X, Instagram and Facebook .

The DMK has demanded that the MLA and the media outlet concerned issue a prominent apology across all digital platforms within 24 hours and remove the interview, related video clips and all reproductions from their social media accounts.

The party has warned that failure to comply within the stipulated timeframe would leave it with no option but to pursue civil and criminal legal proceedings , seeking damages and other legal remedies against those involved.

As political temperatures rise, the episode has added another layer to the increasingly sharp exchanges between Tamil Nadu's major political players ahead of future electoral battles.
