The Twisha Sharma death case , which dates back to May 12, 2026, has taken a major legal and investigative turn after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested former judge Giribala Singh , a day after the Madhya Pradesh High Court quashed her anticipatory bail.

Twisha Sharma, a 33-year-old former model and actor, was found hanging at her marital home in Bhopal on May 12. Her death triggered allegations from her family, who accused her in laws of dowry harassment, mental cruelty, and foul play , leading to an FIR against her husband Samarth Singh and mother in law Giribala Singh . The case, registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 , was later transferred to the CBI for a detailed probe.

On Wednesday, the High Court cancelled the anticipatory bail granted to Giribala Singh by a trial court, citing serious allegations, medical findings, witness statements, and alleged non cooperation in investigation. The court observed that custodial interrogation was necessary given the nature of the evidence being examined in the case.

Following the court order, a CBI team reached Singh’s residence in Bhopal’s Bag Mughaliya extension area and questioned her before taking her into custody. Officials confirmed that her arrest came as a direct consequence of the High Court’s decision, marking a significant escalation in the investigation.

Investigators also noted that Samarth Singh, Twisha’s husband and a lawyer, is already in CBI custody , and both accused are expected to be confronted during interrogation. The agency plans to compare their statements and examine inconsistencies regarding the events leading up to Twisha’s death.

Officials further said that the CBI will seek custody of Giribala Singh from a competent court for sustained interrogation. The agency is focusing on reconstructing the sequence of events, including alleged harassment, medical evidence indicating injuries, and communication records linked to the case.

With both key accused now under custody and judicial scrutiny intensifying, the investigation has entered a critical phase. The case continues to draw national attention due to the involvement of a former judicial officer and the gravity of the allegations surrounding the young woman’s death.
