The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) successfully conducted the medical evacuation of two critically ill elderly patients from Lakshadweep to Kochi, highlighting its rapid emergency response capability and continued humanitarian support to India's remote island territories despite adverse southwest monsoon conditions.

According to a Defence spokesperson, the operation was launched after the Lakshadweep Administration alerted the Coast Guard about the patients' critical condition. Responding immediately, the ICG deployed a Dornier aircraft from Kochi equipped with advanced medical equipment to ensure continuous in-flight monitoring and medical care throughout the mission.

Despite challenging weather conditions, the aircraft safely airlifted both patients to Kochi, where they were immediately shifted to a government hospital and a military hospital for advanced treatment. Officials have not disclosed the identities of the patients or the nature of their illnesses, and no further medical update has been issued so far.

The Defence spokesperson said the mission demonstrated the Indian Coast Guard's high level of operational preparedness , rapid response capability and steadfast commitment to safeguarding lives through timely humanitarian assistance. The operation also underscores the ICG's vital role in maintaining emergency medical connectivity for Lakshadweep, where specialised healthcare facilities are limited and air evacuations are often crucial during life threatening emergencies.
