Two Minors Allegedly Sexually Assaulted at Telangana Residential School; POCSO Case Registered

Two minor boys were allegedly sexually assaulted by three senior students at a state-run residential school in Bowrampet, on the outskirts of Hyderabad, prompting police to register a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and launch an investigation.

According to police, the alleged incident took place on July 27 inside a hostel room on the school campus. The accused have been identified as Children in Conflict with Law (CCLs), in keeping with legal provisions governing juvenile cases. Their identities have not been disclosed.

Officials said the two boys did not immediately report the alleged assault while they were at the school. They are believed to have informed their parents about the incident only after returning home on August 1, following which the families approached the police.

Based on a complaint lodged by the parents, the Dundigal Police Station registered a case on August 2 under relevant provisions of the POCSO Act against the three juveniles. Investigators have begun recording statements and collecting evidence as part of the inquiry.

Police said the investigation is in its preliminary stages and further details will emerge after examining all available evidence and speaking to those connected with the case. Authorities have not disclosed whether the accused and the victims continue to remain at the institution or whether any interim protective measures have been taken.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over student safety, supervision inside residential school hostels and the effectiveness of mechanisms meant to protect children from abuse. Experts have repeatedly stressed the importance of timely reporting, counselling support and vigilant monitoring within educational institutions to prevent such incidents and ensure the well-being of students.

Officials said further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation. Police have appealed for sensitivity while reporting the case, emphasising that the identities of the minor victims are protected under law.
