Two More Deaths Push Assam Flood Toll to 87; Relief Efforts Continue Across Seven Districts

Assam's flood situation remained serious on Monday, with two more deaths pushing this year's flood toll to 87, while more than 1.28 lakh people continued to struggle with inundation across seven districts, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

The latest official bulletin said both fatalities were reported from Sivasagar, the state's worst-affected district, highlighting the continuing risks despite an overall reduction in the number of flood-hit areas.

At present, Charaideo, Sivasagar, Dhemaji, Golaghat, Biswanath, Jorhat and Lakhimpur remain affected by floodwaters. A total of 380 villages are still submerged, while nearly 14,230 hectares of agricultural land remain under water, dealing another blow to farmers already facing heavy losses.

According to the ASDMA, 1,28,071 people continue to be affected by the floods. Sivasagar accounts for the largest share with 55,200 affected residents, followed by Charaideo with 34,050 people and Jorhat with 20,209 people. Although the overall number of affected residents has declined from over 1.35 lakh reported a day earlier, the humanitarian challenge remains significant.

To support displaced families, the district administrations are operating 38 relief camps, where 11,066 people have taken shelter. In addition, 17 relief distribution centres are supplying essential food, drinking water and other necessities to affected communities.

Meanwhile, the Dhansiri River continued to flow above the danger level at Numaligarh in Golaghat district, keeping authorities on alert for any fresh rise in water levels or renewed flooding.

Officials said rescue and relief operations are continuing across vulnerable areas, with local administrations closely monitoring river conditions and extending assistance to marooned residents. Authorities have urged people living near embankments and low-lying areas to remain cautious and follow official advisories until the flood situation improves further across the affected districts.
