UGC-NET Results Announced, 4,000+ Candidates Secure JRF Eligibility

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the results of the UGC National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) for 84 subjects, with more than 4,000 candidates qualifying for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF).

According to a senior NTA official, around 6.07 lakh candidates appeared for the examination. Of these, more than 97,000 candidates qualified for PhD admissions, while over 4,000 cleared the eligibility criteria for JRF.

The UGC-NET is conducted by the NTA to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for Assistant Professor positions and Junior Research Fellowships in universities and colleges across the country. The examination also serves as a qualification route for admission to PhD programmes.

The results come amid concerns over errors reported in question papers for three subjects — English, Commerce and Sociology. Following an examination of the papers, an expert committee identified factual, typographical, translation and language-related errors.

The NTA had released the UGC-NET answer key on August 16, nearly two months after the examination. Along with the answer key, the agency issued a special notice regarding the three affected subjects.

Later that day, the NTA announced that candidates who appeared for English, Commerce and Sociology would have to take fresh examinations in September because of the identified errors.

The re-examinations are scheduled to be held on September 9 and 10. Candidates appearing for the three papers will not be required to pay an additional examination fee.

The fresh tests are expected to provide affected candidates another opportunity to compete under corrected examination conditions. The NTA's decision follows its review process aimed at addressing discrepancies in the original question papers.

With the results now declared for the remaining subjects, thousands of candidates have secured eligibility for higher academic opportunities, teaching positions and research fellowships.
