UIDAI Enables Free Email Update in Aadhaar Through App, Records Over 2.5 Lakh Requests in Two Days
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new facility that allows residents to add or update their email ID in Aadhaar directly through the Aadhaar App , eliminating the need to visit an Aadhaar enrolment or update centre. The initiative is aimed at improving convenience, enhancing security and expanding access to digital public services.
The service became operational on July 1, 2026 , and will remain free through the Aadhaar App for a period of six months. According to UIDAI, the response has been encouraging, with more than 2.5 lakh email updates recorded within the first two days of its launch.
Earlier, residents generally had to visit an Aadhaar centre to add or update their email address. The new facility enables users to complete the process digitally through their smartphones after the required authentication, saving both time and effort.
UIDAI said the initiative is part of its efforts to make Aadhaar services more accessible and user-friendly. The authority noted that the Aadhaar App is increasingly becoming a one-stop platform for managing Aadhaar-related services without requiring physical visits.
A major benefit of linking an email address with Aadhaar is that users can receive real-time email notifications whenever an Aadhaar authentication request is executed. This helps Aadhaar holders monitor the use of their Aadhaar number and provides greater transparency regarding authentication activities.
The feature also adds an extra layer of security , enabling users to quickly identify any unexpected or unauthorised usage of their Aadhaar credentials. By keeping residents informed, UIDAI aims to strengthen trust and awareness in the Aadhaar ecosystem.
The Aadhaar App already offers several important services, including mobile number updates and address updates . According to UIDAI, more than 40 lakh users have updated their mobile numbers through the app, while around 10 lakh people have used it to update their addresses.
The growing adoption of app-based services reflects increasing public acceptance of digital governance initiatives. UIDAI believes the addition of email update functionality will further strengthen the Aadhaar App as a comprehensive platform for Aadhaar management.
Available on both Android and iOS devices, the Aadhaar App allows residents to manage essential Aadhaar details from anywhere. By enabling email updates digitally, UIDAI has simplified the process, improved user convenience and strengthened communication and security for millions of Aadhaar holders across the country.
