UP Man Returns to Hinduism Months After Conversion, Cites Parents' Distress
A man from Shamli district who converted to Islam earlier this year has returned to Hinduism , saying he reversed his decision after witnessing the emotional distress his conversion caused his parents.
A video circulating on social media purportedly shows Ayush Malik , believed to be in his 20s, performing Hindu rituals at his residence. In the video, he says he embraced Islam earlier this year but decided to return to Hinduism after seeing the impact of his decision on his family. PTI could not independently verify the authenticity of the video.
Yashveer Maharaj of Yog Sadhana Ashram, who had earlier raised the issue publicly, confirmed Malik's reconversion. He said Malik had resumed Hindu worship at his home and removed articles associated with the Muslim faith from the premises. Yashveer Maharaj also claimed that a campaign launched over the issue had achieved its objective with Malik's return to Hinduism.
The development comes weeks after Shamli police registered a case under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act following a complaint filed by Malik's father, Devraj Malik .
According to the complaint, Ayush Malik was allegedly converted to Islam on the pretext of marriage to Chandni Qureshi as part of a conspiracy to seize his property. These allegations remain under investigation and have not been established in court .
Police arrested four people , including Chandni Qureshi and her father, Islam Qureshi , on June 7 in connection with the case. The FIR names nine individuals , and the investigation is continuing.
The case has drawn attention due to its intersection of religious conversion , property-related allegations , and the ongoing criminal investigation. Authorities have not announced any conclusions regarding the allegations, and the matter remains under investigation.
