UP Receives Over 5.59 Lakh Voter Registration Applications During Two-Day Drive
Over 5.59 lakh citizens in Uttar Pradesh submitted applications for voter registration during two special campaign days held across the state, the Chief Electoral Officer's (CEO) office said on Sunday.
According to an official statement, a total of 5,59,178 applications seeking inclusion in the electoral roll were received on October 17 and October 24 as part of efforts to ensure that all eligible citizens are registered as voters.
Of the total applications, 1,37,225 were submitted on October 17, while the October 24 campaign witnessed a significantly higher response, with 4,21,953 applications received.
The special drives were organised to facilitate the enrolment of eligible citizens whose names were missing from the electoral roll. Particular emphasis was placed on encouraging women and young people to register as voters.
To assist applicants, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) were stationed at polling locations across Uttar Pradesh on the designated campaign days. They provided information about voter registration procedures, accepted applications and guided citizens on how to seek corrections to existing electoral roll entries.
The initiative aimed to make the registration process more accessible and encourage greater public participation in the electoral process.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa has directed all district election officers to ensure that applications received during the campaigns are processed promptly and in accordance with the prescribed rules, the statement said.
Rinwa also stressed the need to ensure that no eligible citizen is left out while preparing the electoral roll. He called for sustained public awareness efforts to inform citizens about voter registration and encourage eligible individuals to complete the enrolment process.
The two-day campaign forms part of the state's efforts to strengthen electoral participation by identifying and registering eligible voters.
The CEO's office said continued awareness initiatives would be important in ensuring that eligible citizens are included in the electoral roll and can exercise their voting rights.
