Vijayasai Reddy Promises 66% of Party, Government Posts to Gen Z
Former Rajya Sabha member V. Vijayasai Reddy has announced that 66 per cent of positions in his proposed new political party, as well as in a future government, would be reserved for Gen Z, reflecting his stated intention to give younger people a larger role in politics and governance.
Speaking to the media in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday, Vijayasai Reddy shared details about his plans to launch the new political party and indicated that its approach to future political alliances would be decided only after the organisation is formally established. He said the party is yet to be launched and that its executive committee would be constituted after the official formation.
The former MP said the newly formed leadership would then decide whether the party should work with a national political party. He maintained that the decision on alliances would be left to the party’s executive committee rather than being predetermined.
A key feature of his proposed political organisation, according to Vijayasai Reddy, would be the emphasis on youth participation. He said Gen Z would have a significant presence within both the party and a future government, with 66 per cent of positions earmarked for the younger generation.
The proposal comes against the backdrop of Vijayasai Reddy’s changing political trajectory. He had earlier announced his decision to step away from active politics but later indicated that he was planning to establish a new political party.
Vijayasai Reddy resigned from the Rajya Sabha in 2025, citing personal reasons. Before his resignation, he had served as the YSR Congress Party’s parliamentary party leader in the Rajya Sabha from 2016 to 2024 and handled several important parliamentary responsibilities.
He also served as chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture. During his parliamentary tenure, he introduced 30 Private Members’ Bills and served on several committees, including those dealing with Petroleum and Natural Gas, Subordinate Legislation and Public Accounts.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Vijayasai Reddy contested from Nellore but lost to TDP candidate Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy.
His parliamentary work was recognised with the Sansad Ratna Award in 2023 and the Sansad Maharatna Award in 2024.
