More than 24,000 families in Vijayawada have received ownership titles for their residential plots, with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu distributing the documents on Wednesday under the state government’s ‘Pattabhishekam for the Poor’ programme. The move grants full ownership rights over housesites allotted decades ago during the tenure of former Chief Minister NT Rama Rao.

The regularisation covers 617 acres of land, equivalent to nearly 30 lakh square yards. The government has placed the value of the properties at around Rs 9,800 crore, while their estimated market value stands at approximately Rs 24,297 crore. Families from 15 mandals and eight Assembly constituencies, including Vijayawada East, West and Central, Gannavaram, Jaggayyapeta, Mylavaram, Nandigama and Tiruvuru, have benefited from the initiative.

Addressing a public meeting in Vijayawada, Naidu said the coalition government was fulfilling the promises made during the elections and ensuring that welfare and development programmes reached the people. He said nearly 60,000 poor beneficiaries had received land titles across Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Mangalagiri.

According to Naidu, the beneficiaries include 28,000 people in Visakhapatnam, 26,000 in Vijayawada and 5,800 in Mangalagiri. He said the government was providing land worth around Rs 52,000 crore to poor families, with the value of individual plots ranging from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 2 crore depending on their location.

The Chief Minister said the coalition government had taken up development works worth Rs 1.5 lakh crore so far. In the irrigation sector, it plans to spend Rs 35,000 crore on 36 projects over the next three years. Naidu also alleged that the previous government had imposed an additional Rs 32,000 crore burden on consumers through electricity charges and reiterated that his government would not increase power tariffs.

Highlighting women’s employment, Naidu said, citing a government statistics report, that 42 out of every 100 women in Visakhapatnam were employed, compared with 37 in Vijayawada. He said products made by DWCRA women were being marketed under their own brands.

The government has completed 5.5 lakh houses and is preparing to construct another 5.5 lakh, Naidu said. He also outlined plans to develop Amaravati with 50% green cover, renewable energy and a net-zero city objective as part of the broader ‘Swarna Andhra’ vision.
