Vijay's TVK Gains Momentum as Three Former AIADMK Ministers Join Party
In a significant political development ahead of the next electoral cycle in Tamil Nadu , the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is set to induct three former AIADMK ministers along with hundreds of their supporters, marking another setback for the opposition party and a boost for Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay's growing political outfit.
Former Health Minister Dr C. Vijayabaskar , former Transport Minister M. R. Vijayabaskar , and senior leader M. S. M. Anandan will formally join the ruling TVK at a party event in Mamallapuram on Thursday. The induction is expected to be attended by a large number of supporters who have travelled from Pudukkottai , Karur , and other districts, underlining the scale of the political shift.
Addressing reporters before the event, Dr C. Vijayabaskar said the decision to leave the AIADMK was neither sudden nor personal. He explained that it came after extensive consultations with his supporters, district level office bearers, and residents of his Viralimalai Assembly constituency , all of whom, he claimed, strongly favoured a new political direction.
The former minister said he was compelled to part ways with the AIADMK because of what he described as the "wrong decisions" taken by the party's current leadership. His remarks reflect the growing dissatisfaction among a section of senior leaders who believe the party has drifted away from its core principles.
Adding to the blow for the AIADMK, M. R. Vijayabaskar is also joining the TVK along with his supporters from Karur , further strengthening the ruling party's organisational presence in the region.
Former minister M. S. M. Anandan , who recently ended his 45 year association with the AIADMK, launched a sharp attack on the party leadership. Criticising AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami , he alleged that the party had become a "self centered organisation" that failed to recognise the dedication and efforts of its grassroots workers.
Expressing confidence in the future of the TVK, Anandan said he believed the party, under the leadership of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay , had the vision and capability to provide effective governance for Tamil Nadu over the coming years. He also rejected allegations of horse trading , insisting that the decision to join the TVK was entirely voluntary and driven by conviction rather than political pressure or inducements.
The event will also see the induction of Valarmathi from Tiruchirappalli and several district secretaries, including P. K. Vairamuthu , Ilambai Tamilselvan , Orathanadu Sekar , and Trichy Srinivasan , indicating that the crossover extends beyond individual leaders to a wider network of local functionaries.
The latest defections are expected to intensify political debate in Tamil Nadu, with the TVK continuing to expand its base by attracting experienced leaders from rival parties, while the AIADMK faces renewed questions over internal discontent and leadership challenges.
