Indian Ambassador to China Vikram Doraiswami held multiple diplomatic engagements in Beijing on Wednesday, focusing on strengthening people-to-people exchanges and expanding academic and institutional cooperation between India and China.

In his meeting with Yang Wanming , President of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries , Doraiswami discussed the enduring legacy of India-China people-to-people exchanges and ways to deepen cultural, educational and youth interactions . Both sides emphasised enhancing mutual understanding through deeper societal links , according to the Indian Embassy in Beijing.

Separately, Doraiswami also met Chen Bo , President of the China Institute of International Studies (CIIS) , where discussions focused on strengthening think-tank cooperation, scholarly exchanges, and track-II diplomacy . Both sides highlighted the importance of regular academic dialogue to support a more stable intellectual environment for bilateral relations and broader global issues.

Recent engagements also reflect a wider diplomatic outreach by the Indian envoy, including interactions with regional representatives and participation in academic forums. Earlier, Doraiswami addressed students at Beijing Foreign Studies University, where he highlighted the two-millennia legacy of India-China civilisational exchange through language, ideas and cultural learning.

Officials noted that such initiatives aim to reinforce non-governmental channels of engagement amid ongoing efforts to stabilise ties, including sensitive border-related discussions and gradual normalization of relations.

The Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, along with CIIS, plays a key role in promoting international friendship and policy dialogue, forming an important part of China’s external engagement framework.

Together, these meetings underline a coordinated push to strengthen people-centric diplomacy, academic collaboration, and cultural connectivity , seen as essential pillars for long-term stability in India-China relations.
