Viral Video Of Hoshiarpur Jail Inmate Alleging Drug Supply And Harassment Triggers Probe

A purported viral video from Hoshiarpur Central Jail showing inmate Manpreet Singh alias Manna has triggered a formal inquiry by jail authorities and renewed scrutiny of prison security in Punjab.

In the video, Manpreet Singh, lodged in jail in an extortion case , alleged harassment by jail staff and claimed that inmates were being pressured for money. He also made claims that drugs were available inside the prison and appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for reforms aimed at prisoner rehabilitation and improved living conditions.

A recent media report also indicated that the inmate allegedly livestreamed from inside the jail , repeating similar accusations and claiming that narcotics were being supplied within the facility, further escalating concerns over internal security lapses.

Hoshiarpur Central Jail Superintendent Satnam Singh confirmed that a probe has been initiated into the incident, and said appropriate action would be taken after the inquiry is completed.

The matter has sparked a political controversy , with opposition leaders targeting the state government. Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring questioned the functioning of the jail administration and demanded accountability from the jail minister, alleging repeated failures in law and order.

Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sanjiv Talwar also criticised the government, asking how a high-security inmate was able to circulate a video online and raise serious questions about prison oversight.

The incident has drawn wider attention as part of a pattern of recent controversies involving Punjab jails, including allegations of internal collusion and security breaches.
