Viral Video Triggers Action in Gurugram Biker Hit-and-Run, Accused Denies Intent

A speeding car allegedly hit a woman biker on Gurugram’s Golf Course Road, knocking her off her motorcycle and sending her skidding several metres along the road, triggering outrage after footage of the incident surfaced on social media.

The incident took place on Sunday when the car allegedly struck the woman’s Aprilia RS 457 sports bike from the side while overtaking. The biker, who identifies herself as Siya on social media, suffered minor injuries and later shared footage recorded by a camera mounted on her motorcycle.

Gurugram Police has taken suo motu cognizance of the incident and is registering a case under Sections 281 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Sector 56 police station, ACP (Headquarters) Abhilaksh Joshi said. Three special teams have been formed to apprehend the accused, and raids are being conducted at various locations. No written complaint had been received from the victim at the time, the officer said.

The accused, Kalyan Bainsla, admitted the collision was his fault but denied deliberately hitting Siya. He claimed he lost control of the car near a U-turn and fled because he feared being attacked by a group of bikers travelling with her. Bainsla, a gym owner who describes himself as an international kabaddi player, said he was travelling with his sister and two cousins. He claimed several bikers had repeatedly overtaken his vehicle and that he stopped at a red light to speak to them before leaving.

His lawyer, Naveen Bainsla, alleged that around 25 riders were overtaking the car and claimed Siya was travelling at 140-170 kmph when the collision occurred. The lawyer said the crash happened when the woman turned right while the car took a left.

Siya, however, alleged that the car had been following her group, its occupants misbehaved with her and appeared intoxicated before the vehicle struck her bike while overtaking. Her father alleged the collision was deliberate and said the family would file a police complaint. The car is registered to Manish, who said he was at work and that Bainsla had borrowed the vehicle. Bainsla has since deactivated his Instagram account.

Siya has said she will pursue legal action while requesting that her identity and face be kept private. Police said it has a zero-tolerance policy towards road rage and reckless behaviour and will take action in accordance with law.
