Viral Videos Prompt FIR As Cranes Block Newly Opened Kalina–BKC Link Road
Two employees of a construction company have been booked by police for allegedly blocking the newly opened Kalina–BKC Link Road by parking cranes, heavy vehicles and construction materials on the carriageway, officials said on Saturday.
Police said the accused include a heavy crane operator , and action was initiated after multiple viral videos on social media showed the road completely obstructed, triggering public outrage and complaints.
The stretch is part of a key connectivity corridor between Kalina and Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) , an area already known for heavy traffic movement and ongoing infrastructure works. Officials said the obstruction created serious inconvenience for commuters and raised road safety concerns in a high-traffic zone.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) had earlier directed the construction firm to clear the blocked stretch immediately and ensure smooth vehicular movement. However, despite repeated communication, the company allegedly failed to comply, leading to continued obstruction.
Following escalation of the issue online, the BKC police registered an FIR under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita section 285 , which deals with danger or obstruction in a public way .
After the incident gained traction, civic authorities coordinated with the contractor to ensure the removal of cranes and parked vehicles , restoring traffic flow on the stretch.
Police have confirmed that no arrests have been made so far , and investigation is underway into the role of the company and possible violations of safety and permit conditions during construction-related activity.
