Warangal Police Detain 107 in Major Anti-Drug Operation, 29 Test Positive
Warangal police have intensified their crackdown on drug consumption and criminal activities, detaining 107 people and conducting drug tests as part of a special enforcement drive across several areas under the Warangal Police Commissionerate. Of those tested, 29 returned positive results.
The extensive inspections were conducted in the early hours of Friday under the supervision of Police Commissioner N. Swetha, IPS, and Central Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police Dhara Kavitha. Police teams carried out searches in Autonagar, Kareemabad, Kashibugga, Shambunipet, Shivanagar and LB Nagar.
Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner N. Swetha said drug abuse posed a serious threat to the future of young people and the safety of society. She warned that stringent action would be taken against those involved in the supply, sale and illegal transportation of narcotic substances.
She also stressed that the police were focusing not only on enforcement but also on rehabilitation. Individuals struggling with addiction would be provided with medical treatment and counselling to help them overcome substance dependence and return to normal life.
During the operation, police detained 107 individuals, including rowdy-sheeters, habitual offenders, people previously linked to drug-related cases and other suspects. Drug tests were conducted on all of them, with 29 testing positive. The police said further action would be initiated in accordance with the law.
The teams also seized 17 two-wheelers, two cars and three electric motor pumps for lacking proper documentation or registration number plates.
As part of the Community Connect programme, police personnel interacted with residents and gathered information about criminal activities and other anti-social elements in their neighbourhoods. They also highlighted the importance of installing CCTV cameras in residential colonies to strengthen surveillance and prevent crime.
Swetha said surprise inspections would continue regularly as part of efforts to curb drug abuse and maintain public safety. She urged citizens to report information about drug-related activities or other offences through Dial 100 or 112, or by approaching the nearest police station. The identity of informants would be kept confidential, she assured.
