Waste to Wealth Drive Generates Over Rs 5,100 Crore Through Scrap Disposal

The Centre will conduct the sixth edition of its annual special cleanliness campaign from October 2 to 31, with a preparatory phase scheduled from September 16 to 30, the Personnel Ministry said on Tuesday.

During the preparatory phase, ministries and departments will identify pendency in selected categories, mobilise ground-level functionaries and finalise campaign sites. They will also review records, undertake space management planning and identify scrap for disposal, the ministry said.

Campaign 6 will be carried out across all ministries and departments of the Centre and their offices, including outstation establishments and Indian Missions abroad.

Since 2021, five editions of the campaign and monthly Secretariat reforms monitoring up to July 2026 have covered more than 24.20 lakh sites and resulted in over 180.48 lakh files being weeded out or closed, according to the ministry.

The campaigns have generated ₹5,102.91 crore through scrap disposal during the period, it said.

In Campaign 5, 11.6 lakh sites were covered and 29.52 lakh files were weeded out. The exercise also freed 233.75 lakh square feet of office space and generated around ₹833.92 crore through scrap disposal.

Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh will launch an online portal on Wednesday to monitor the progress of Campaign 6, the ministry said.A meeting of nodal officers of Campaign 6, public grievances and appellate authorities from all 84 ministries and departments will also be held on Wednesday.

The meeting will be addressed by secretaries of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), Posts, Coal, Mines, and the Department of School Education and Literacy.

DARPG is the nodal department for coordinating and steering the annual special campaigns held to institutionalise “swachhata” and reduce pendency in government offices.The Cabinet Secretary wrote to all central secretaries on August 5, while DARPG issued detailed guidelines for Campaign 6 on August 13.

During the preparatory phase, departments will assess records and office space, mobilise functionaries, finalise sites and identify scrap for disposal.

Best practices from the campaign will be presented during Good Governance Week, scheduled from December 19 to 25, the ministry said.
