India's T20 rebuild under head coach Gautam Gambhir has hit a rough patch, but the former opener believes the team's recent struggles are part of the price of starting afresh. Following India's record 125-run defeat to England in the third T20I at Nottingham, Gambhir admitted the side has failed to adapt to English conditions while urging patience with a young squad undergoing a major transition.

The crushing defeat left India 0-2 behind in the five-match series and extended their losing streak to four matches, following last month's maiden bilateral T20I series defeat to Ireland.

Speaking after the match, Gambhir said the current team is vastly different from the one that won the T20 World Cup , pointing to the absence of experienced stars like Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah , as well as the leadership change with Shreyas Iyer now leading the side.

He stressed that rebuilding a team requires time, especially when youngsters are being entrusted with key roles. Fifteen-year-old opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi , fast bowler Prince Yadav , playing only his second T20I, and Harshit Rana , returning from injury, are among the players being groomed for the future.

Gambhir, however, felt India's biggest shortcoming has been its inability to read conditions and adapt quickly . He said understanding factors such as wind, ground dimensions and match situations is just as important as technical skill in T20 cricket.

India were bowled out for 76 , their lowest total against England, as Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue ripped through the batting order. While admitting the team must improve against quality pace, Gambhir described it as one of those difficult days that can occur while playing an aggressive brand of cricket.

Despite the heavy defeat, the India coach praised Prince Yadav for his impressive 2 for 30 spell, saying the youngster showed composure while bowling in challenging phases of the innings. Gambhir maintained that although results matter, the long-term focus remains on building a strong team capable of sustained success, adding that every successful transition demands patience before it begins to deliver consistent performances.
