A fresh political controversy erupted on Thursday after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal claimed that his social media account had been restricted in India, prompting him to seek an explanation from Meta over the action.

In a post on X, Kejriwal said he discovered that his account had become inaccessible to users in India. According to him, enquiries made with Meta's India office confirmed that the account had indeed been restricted. However, he alleged that company officials neither disclosed the reason behind the action nor explained the process for restoring normal access.

Kejriwal further stated that emails sent to the company seeking clarification received only routine acknowledgements, with no specific response addressing his concerns. Describing the company's handling of the matter as inadequate, he criticised the lack of transparency over the alleged restriction.

To support his claim, the former Delhi chief minister shared a screenshot of his account status page. The image displayed the message "Unavailable in some locations," indicating that access to the account had been limited in certain regions.

The AAP leader also launched a political attack while commenting on the issue. In his post, he remarked that Meta should not "bow down" to the prime minister, alleging that such actions could eventually leave only the prime minister's account freely accessible in India.

The claim quickly drew attention on social media, with supporters and political observers questioning the circumstances surrounding the reported restriction.

Meta has not issued any official statement on the matter so far, and there was no immediate response from the company regarding Kejriwal's allegations or the status of the account.

The development is likely to fuel a broader debate over social media moderation, platform transparency and the handling of accounts belonging to prominent political leaders.
